ಗುಂಡ್ಮಿ ಅಂದರೆ ಏನು?
ಗುಂಡ್ಮಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಕರಾವಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವ ಒಂದು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಗ್ರಾಮ. ಪೂರ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಹೆದ್ದಾರಿ 66, ಪಶ್ಚಿಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಡುಕೆರೆ ಹೊಳೆ ಇದರ ಗಡಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಭತ್ತದ ಗದ್ದೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಕಾಡು ವನಗಳು ಜಾಸ್ತಿ. ಕೆಲವು ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಏನು ವಿಶೇಷಗಳಿಲ್ಲ.
ಈ ವೆಬ್ ಸೈಟಿನ ಗುರಿ ಏನು?
ಈ ವೆಬ್ ಸೈಟಿನ ಮೂಲಕ ಗುಂಡ್ಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣಸಿಗುವ ವನ್ಯ ಜೀವಿಗಳ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಜಗತ್ತಿಗೆ ಪರಿಚಯಿಸುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಸುಮಾರು ಎಂಬತ್ತು ಜಾತಿಗಳ ಪಕ್ಷಿಗಳು, ಹಾವುಗಳು ಮತ್ತಿತರ ವನ್ಯ ಜೀವಿಗಳ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳು ಇಲ್ಲಿವೆ.
ಇದು, ಪಕ್ಷಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಾಣಿ ಪ್ರಪಂಚವನ್ನು ನೋಡಲು ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿತ ಅರಣ್ಯ ಅಥವ ಮೃಗಾಲಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಬೇಕೆನ್ನುವ ಕಲ್ಪನೆಯನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ನಮ್ಮ ಊರುಗಳಲ್ಲೇ ಬಹಳ ವನ್ಯ ಜೀವನ ಇದೆ ಎಂದು ತೋರಿಸುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ.

What is Gundmi?
Gundmi is a coastal village in state of Karnataka, India. It is a small village, bordered with national highway 66 on the east, and backwater river on the west. With an area of not more than 3 square kilo meters and around 1000 residents, it is mostly paddy fields and sparsely spread woods. Apart from couple of temples, there aren't any manmade attractions here. For a poetic description of the village, read through this article by TheTap.
What is this project about?
WildGundmi project is to showcase the life that I found in Gundmi village.
All the images showcased in this project are shot with in the boundaries of Gundmi, currently has about 80+ species of birds, 5 species of snakes and many other mammals and insects. By no means this is an exhaustive list, there are plenty more that I haven't managed to click a photo off.
When I set about photographing the wild life here in Gundmi, even in my wildest dreams I hadn't imagined that I would see so much diverse life here. Over the last 14 months or so, I've grown fond of roaming the paddy fields, waiting for things to happen on the backwater river bed, and gingerly exploring the thick woods and watering holes.
Aim of this project is to showcase that wild life exists even in the most average of the villages, one needn't go to national forest or wild life sanctuaries to witness the magical nature.
I hope this effort of mine inspires kids and the adults alike to spend time in the nature and appreciate the magic that surrounds us.
